A Flower Portrait – Rock the Shot May Entry

This was a fun one of Lily a few months ago. I was taking portraits of her and she wanted me to take one of her flower instead. The angle makes it almost look like I just photoshopped a flower on top of the portrait. It was shot at 50mm at 3.5 so the whole flower was in focus… and being so close up she obviously wasn’t in focus at all! Turned out to be a fun picture.

Month after month I see so many photographers submit photos to Rock the Shot and for some reason I haven’t yet entered! When I saw the theme Water this month I immediately thought of this photo of Lily I took at the beach a couple months back. She had just gotten a brand new pair of pretty pants but REALLLY wanted to play in the water. She was trying not to get them wet and failed, but she sure did have a lot of fun playing and staring out at the ocean.

April 12-12-12 Post! Getting some FroYo with Friends

The 12th crept up on me this month. Luckily we went out yesterday with some friends to get some frozen yogurt and brought our cameras with us. I think the people working must have thought we were a little crazy! Lily said she wanted “double chocolate” and I think she got her wish. Alex just enjoyed walking around with his pals. Workshop with Baby Nicolas – Jupiter Florida Newborn Photography

Last month I held a Newborn workshop at my house with 5 talented local photographers. One of them recently had a baby and allowed us to take photos of him. We got lucky that Nicolas is a fantastic baby and was in the mood for his close up. After a feeding he was ready to go. A few of the photographers there were fairly new to newborn photography so I was able to share some of the basics that help me get some of my favorite shots. For those new to my work, I like to photograph newborns in a basic way so that they are the center of attention. Once I’ve achieved the photos I need I do tend to have some fun with hats etc. if it fits in with Mom’s style. I like guiding the newborns into basic posing safely. In most cases I do not do advanced posing or shots that would require composite images. I hope that by sharing my style I can help other photographers find theirs in the world of newborn photography.

Alexander’s First Birthday Session – Jupiter, FL

A year passed so quickly and now my baby boy is 1! I thought for a long time about what I wanted to do for his session. I knew that I wanted some portraits of “just him” but I also wanted to put together a set that would be fun and amusing and would mean something to him. This year I’m working with Trisha Varney a local set designer and wardrobe coordinator to help with some photo shoots when needed, so I decided to put her to work to help me with Alex. We spoke many times working out the details on this one, even once around midnight! After doing research I decided a storybook theme would be a good idea and I brought up the idea of “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs”. It was a story I loved growing up and was funny, cute and fit Alex’s personality perfectly.

One of the most amusing things about Baby Alex is his love for food. By the time he was 6 months old I thought he would never want any, he still showed no interest in solids! By the time he was 7 months I was introducing baby foods and he wasn’t very happy with them. He seemed to skip over them entirely and by the time he was 9 months he was eating Chipotle, and at 10 months you could hand him a slice of pizza and he would eat it just like an adult. He’s a funny kid.

The awesome thing about working with Trisha was bringing up the idea of Alex floating away on a giant sandwich with pizza and cheese sails did not bring on any strange looks. It just make her excited for a challenge! And she really nailed this set, I couldn’t be more happy with the way it all turned out. I’m not even sure which ones to print out..

We’re busy with sessions again after taking a break for a couple months. But seeing my last 12-12-12 post as the last entry really reminds me that I am behind in blog posts. I will be sharing many more fun recent images before the 12-12-12 April post for sure!

Anyway, I took these photos a couple weeks ago when we went to the beach with some friends in the late afternoon. They are of course of my favorite subject, my kids! I just tried to let them have a good time (and kept Alex from crawling away into the ocean).

My February 12-12-12 Post!

For my 12 photos in February I decided to take some pictures of my kids at home a couple days ago. One thing I noticed when I went to make an album for our personal 2011 photos was that I used my cell phone to snap way too many photos at home. So I decided to take out my camera and snap some of those everyday moments that usually aren’t captured. When my daughter doesn’t have school she wakes up and plays with her brother. This day she just so happened to be wearing her Christmas jammies in February I also brought the camera back out when we were getting ready for bed that evening.
